The Unconventional Truth!
Here is our final film 'The Unconventional Truth'. Overall I really pleased with how it turned out and hope you enjoy it!:)
The Unconventional Truth survey
As part of the feedback for our film, I emailed various different people a set of questions in which I asked them if they could answer and send back to me..Here are a couple of my findings:)
Emma, aged 18
A film noir as I feel it is quite obvious due to the use low key lighting and costuming for all characters.
2.What was your favourite aspect of the opening scene and why?
I really liked the transition from the graveyard to the school corridor as it was a really good way to make a transition from one setting to another without boring the audience.
3.Do you feel that the credits were clear and effective? And if so why?
Yes definitely, they were clear, precise and professional and could easily be read and also linked in with the genre of film noir.
4.Do you feel that the concept of the plot/storyline was easy to grasp and understand?
Yes easily! I understood immediately, and I feel that the use of the voiceover and flashbacks helped me to fully grasp the basis of what the films plotline was.
5.Were the characters you saw believable/realistic?
Yes because of the use of older actors and younger actors who portrayed people their actual ages so it make it so much more realistic because they fitted in with the same age range.
6.Did you feel that the use of the camera/shots/angles/movements and editing were effective?
Yes they helped to create an impact on what type of character and persona each separate character had.
7.Did you feel that the lighting was effective and helped to set the mood?
Yes because there was dark lighting on the killer the most of the time and lighter lighting on Jake most of the time so it should the contrast between the two really well.
8.Did you like the choice of music used throughout and why?
Yes! I loved it, it really impacted the emotions that the characters were feeling and made me feel the emotion they were feeling too.
9.If any, what areas do you feel could be improved overall?
I can’t actually think of any….
10.Did you feel that the title of the film ‘The Unconventional Truth related to the character/storyline of the film? Why?
Yes because we see how the truth is kept away from Jake for such a long time and how it has an ending that you do not expect that is entirely ‘unconventional’!
11.Do you have any other feedback at all?
No..other than well done!!
Ben, aged 17
THE UNCONVENTIONAL TRUTH SURVEY
1.What genre of film would you say this film is and why do you feel inclined to feel this way?
A film noir because of the use of the detective style storyline.
2.What was your favourite aspect of the opening scene and why?
I really like the tracking shot that followed rosy and dom down the characters, kept me intrigued to see who they were going to be.
3.Do you feel that the credits were clear and effective? And if so why?
Yes because they were easily understandable and didn’t detract from the filming itself surrounding it.
4.Do you feel that the concept of the plot/storyline was easy to grasp and understand?
Yes because the voiceover at the beginning made it clear but also without giving too much away at an early stage.
5.Were the characters you saw believable/realistic?
Yes, I liked the use of the older character to play the dad as it made it a lot believable.
6.Did you feel that the use of the camera/shots/angles/movements and editing were effective?
Yes because they were used smartly to help emphasise certain emotions that the characters were feeling at that point in time.
7.Did you feel that the lighting was effective and helped to set the mood?
Yes because it showed variety of light and dark lighting depending on the mood of the scene.
8.Did you like the choice of music used throughout and why?
Yes because it added an extra sense of drama for the audience as they watched it.
9.If any, what areas do you feel could be improved overall?
Maybe not so much talking in the pub scene….it went on for quite a while.
10.Did you feel that the title of the film ‘The Unconventional Truth related to the character/storyline of the film? Why?
Yes because it represents the lies and deceit between the characters of Jake and Scarlet.

My Final film reviews
Here is my final film review page. Overall I am really pleased with the final outcome of my piece as I feel it includes all aspects in which I feel to all be key elements into a good clear and stand out film review page. I feel that I have achieved my purpose to make it look like it has come straight out of a magazine due to the fonts, style and colour scheme that I have used. I feel that it looks really clean cut and professional and therefore this making it more interesting for people to look at.
Below is a short video in which you can look deeper into the actual reviews that I have written for both LA Confidential and our own film The Unconventional Truth. I have sliced both pages in half so that you can get a clear view into more intricate detailing that I have used within my double page spread.
Making my film review page
Here is a video of me explaining how I created my double page spread of a film review from both LA Confidential and The unconventional truth.
Film Review research
As part of my research into creating my own film review pages, I decided to look on various different websites at film reviews to get a better understanding for the layout, font style/colours that they used and what aspects I felt would work well and what would not when it came to creating my own. I decided to focus on Empire magazine online and Heat magazine online (Heatworld).
Here is a video of my research and analysis of their own film review pages.

Public Research
As part of my research/audience research into the Film Noir/Neo-Noir genre I created a survey in which I asked 30 random people of ages between 13-42+ a set of different questions surrounding the genre itself and how/where they would be most inclined to both watch the film and how much they would be most willing to pay to watch these films.
Here are my findings..
